Denim Jeans In The Workplace

Mr Shabby
Does your otherwise professional workplace allow for a casual or relaxed attire on a particular day of the week? If your place of business is like many others, you may be entitled to such a “benefit” typically reserved for the Friday of each week.
What you wear to work on “Casual Friday” could really hurt your otherwise stellar reputation. Remember, although casual Friday provides you the freedom to dress down, you should resist any temptations to dress like a corporate yuppie or a club-hopping douche-bag. We’ve noticed a lot of abuse when it comes to dressing down at work and hereby present the do’s and dont’s of denim in the workplace.

The Do’s

Say No To Khaki’s
Choose denim jeans over khaki’s. Of course we may be a bit biased here, but chino pants or khaki’s can’t compete with a great pair of men’s jeans. While khaki’s present a country club, upper- crust type feel, jeans will feel liberating and will show off your sense of style. If you’ve been professionally dressed Monday through Thursday, lighten up and show off your “wild side” over the weekend.

Go Dark
Select denim jeans that are dark in color. While you are dressing casual, you don’t want to look too casual. Light colored or faded jeans simply look too amateur for a professional.

Go With Straight Leg’s
Straight leg jeans are a classic cut and go well with many types of footwear, particularly a nice pair of loafers or oxfords. Stay safe with straight leg jeans and avoid any temptation to deviate from the plan.

The Don’ts

No Ragged Jeans
Just say no to anything that looks remotely worn or torn. No frayed jeans. No ragged cuffs. Now is not the time to break out those new distressed denim jeans you bought for the club. Keep ‘em in your closet until tomorrow. Remember, you are a clean cut professional man, not a savage in torn up ratty jeans or a mechanic day-lighting as a manager.

No Crazy Stitching
Look, having a simple logo or stitch across the back pockets of your jeans is OK. But resist all temptation to put on a pair of jeans with graffiti-like stitching all over your ass. Keep it clean, fellas, keep it clean.

No Baggy Jeans
You are not a carpenter. You will not be putting hammers into your pants at work. Do not wear carpenter jeans. Got it? Also, you are not a rapper. Do not wear baggy jeans that look the part. Keep ‘em up on your waist. Nobody wants to see your “drawers” hanging out the back of your pants.

Summary
Many of these tips seem very obvious. Follow these tips to remain on the right side of the fashion police at work and who knows, they just might help you get that promotion you’ve been looking for. Or catch the eyes of the women in your workplace. Either way, its a win-win.
